The High Line, NYC

I finally managed to visit The High Line last week. What is The High Line you may ask? It is a 1 mile long public park built on an historic freight line elevated above the streets on Manhattan's west side. It's become the "top 10" must visit spots in NYC. So what makes the High Line so special?

The lush greenery, plenty of flora fauna and the cool eco - friendly benches. The elevated park gives you a feeling like you are floating with the clouds while still being on the ground. The view of the streets below makes it unique. All along the walk you can see buildings, new modern apartments and even a view of the pier.

If this is your first time, you'll never know what's coming your way. You just keep walking and beautiful things keep coming your way. There are some food stalls and information booth at one end of the park. People are generally lounging around, laughing/talking/walking/reading along the path. The whole atmosphere is calm and peaceful. Here are some picture I took with my phone on the way!!

It really is beautiful! There was a disused railway line near where I used to live - but they've left it more natural & rugged & messy (http://www.urban75.org/london/alexandra.html). This is lovely. What great use of public space for something so quirky. Take me next time too! - Kittu

Kittu, another reason to visit NYC soon! This place is really lovely. I see the one in London is def. more rugged. Do people even walk around it?

Shruti,
This a great blog post with awesome pictures. Do you know if it gets crowded around sunset time? It looks like a good date place. I think I want to bring my new girl here and a sunset opportunity would be great so thats the reason I ask. Thanks.

John, Thank you! Glad you liked it. It does get a little crowded but there are plenty of quiet spaces and nooks. Not everyone walks the entire length and so if you go down towards the end, there are fewer people. It would be a great idea for a first date. Sunset time would be a great setting. I am sure she will love it :) Good Luck!!
